Panama, 13th August

The Administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), Mr. Jorge Barakat Pitty, met with the Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China Office in Panama, Mr. Wang Weihua.

The purpose of this meeting was to exchange ideas and to resume the negotiation process of a maritime agreement. According to the High Representative of the Chinese Government, his country's companies have seen the Isthmus’ potential and are interested in investing in order to take advantage of the logistics platform that the Panama Maritime Authority impulses.

Both sides expressed the interest in a Human Resources Development Training, by means of exchange and cooperation activities programs. For this reason, the Chinese representation in Panama invited a representative from the PMA to participate in the seminar of the Chambers of Commerce and Industries from Latin America, the Caribbean and the countries of the South Pacific, which will be held from 2nd to 22nd September 2014, in Beijing City.

At the meeting were also present, on behalf of the PMA, the Secretary-General, Mr. Tomas Avila, the Director of Merchant Marine, Mr. Fernando Solórzano and the Director-General of Foreign Policy of the Panama Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Oreste Del Rio
