PANAMA SEEKS TO DEVELOP IN THE MARITIME LOGISTICS HUB OF THE REGION

Panama, 14th August

With the aim to promote Panama as the maritime logistics hub in the region, the Administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), Mr. Jorge Barakat Pitty, met with the codirector of Georgia Tech – Panama Logistics Innovation & Research Center – Donald Ratliff, with whom, he exchanged ideas about the steps to be followed in order to meet this goal.

The port maritime development that Panama has reached, joined to the expansion of the Panama Canal – in which about 144 maritime routes worldwide converge – turns Panama into a suitable site, for a development that will impact the entire region:  North, Central and South America.

Facing these facts, the Panama Maritime Authority has initiated meetings with Georgia Tech, seeking the necessary mechanisms that will result in the positioning of Panama as a logistics hub in the region.

The meeting was also attended on behalf of Georgia Tech, Mrs. Yuritza Oliver, and Mr. Maximiliano Jiménez; on behalf of the Panama Maritime Authority, Mrs. Gicela Kinkead, Mrs. Migdalia Jaén, Mr. José Miguel Rovira, Mr. Héctor Mendoza and Mrs. Guimara Tuñon.
