The Deputy Administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority, Mr. Alejandro Agustin Moreno, the main representative of our institution participating in this session, stated that “it is expected that during this meeting, the Council approves Panama’s proposal to IMO to be the host country of the side-event of the World Maritime Day 2017, which coincides with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Panamanian Ship Registry.”

Within the Council, which embraces 40 members, the work carried out by the Organization, since its last meeting, will be examined. Also, different aspects of strategic and political issues will be analyzed. Similarly, the topic of the adoption of practices and procedures for the appointment of the Secretary General during the Council’s next session, which will be held in spring 2015, will be addressed.

Likewise, other matters will be addressed during the 113th session of IMO Council, such as: Setting up the final process in order to establish a mandatory Audit Scheme for IMO Member States, which will come into force from 2016; defining OMI’s preliminary budget for the biennium 2016-2017.
