THE BUSINESS COUNCIL OF LOGISTICS (COEL) WILL SUPPORT THE PANAMA MARITIME AUTHORITY IN ITS INITIATIVE TO CREATE A SECRETARIAT OF LOGISTICS

 

Panama, September 12.

The Representatives of the Business Council of Logistics, (COEL), expressed their interest in supporting the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), in its initiative of creating a National Secretariat of Logistics that aims to develop a National Logistics Plan whose goal is turning the country into the main Logistics Hub in the region.

As part of the discussion table, where the parties exchanged ideas and discussed the benefits of this project, it was agreed to work in a concatenated manner, in developing this significant plan, which encourages the economic growth of the country, in the logistic sector, as well as in the maritime.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Severo Sousa, on behalf of the COEL; Mrs. Gicela Rachel Kinkead, Mrs. Migdalia Jaen, and Mr. Jose Miguel Rovira attended the meeting on behalf of the Panama Maritime Authority and Mr. Hector Mendoza and Mrs. Dianela Zachrisson attended the meeting, on behalf of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The Business Council of Logistics has among its main goals: contributing to maintain the competitiveness and the positioning of the logistics sector. It also seeks to promote and institutionalize the participation of the private sector in the elaboration and implementation of development strategies in the logistics sector of Panama, as a state policy. 

This Council consists of the  Business Alliance for Secure Commerce – BASC Panama, the Users’ Association of Colon Free Trade Zone, the Free Trade Zones Association of Panama, the Panamanian Association of Cargo Agents, the Panamanian Association of Maritime Law, the Panamanian Association of Business Executives, the Business Association of Panama Pacific, the American Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Panama, the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama, the Panama Maritime Chamber, the National Chamber of Cargo Transport and the Union of Customs Brokers Panama.
