PMA SIGNS COOPERATION AGREEMENT WITH THE UNITED KINGDOM HYDROGRAPHIC OFFICE

In recent days, the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) and the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) was held at the residence of British Ambassador to Panama.

For over 200 years, The UK Hydrographic Office has devoted itself to the mapping of nautical charts of the oceans worldwide, aiming to provide with navigation products and services to save and protect lives at sea.

The agreement in question arises thanks to the interest that exists between the two organizations to comply with international regulations emanating from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), regarding the safety of navigation, as well as the improving of the hydrographic services, of the issuance Electronic Charts of the Panamanian territorial waters and of the quality of available technologies.

This cooperation agreement will allow providing training and the necessary technical equipment to the staff of the Directorate General of Ports and Auxiliary Maritime Industries, for studies related to hydrography and nautical charting. 

The agreement was signed by Mr. Jorge Barakat Pitty (Atty.) on behalf of the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) and by the Rear Admiral Tom Karsten on behalf of the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO).
