PANAMA OFFERS SUPPORT TO SHIPBUILDERS, SHIP OPERATORS, SHIPOWNERS AND MARITIME BUSINESS GROUPS FROM GREECE.
The Panama Maritime Authority follows closely the financial situation faced by Greece. Greece is an important partner country, in matters of merchant marine and trade.
The Hellenic Republic faces a temporary financial crisis. We know for sure, though, that Greece will successfully recover from this crisis; we are aware, however, that this cannot happen without the support of the international community.
Thus, aware of the situation and aiming to give support to shipbuilders, ship operators, shipowners and maritime business groups from Greece that are registered in the Panamanian Registry, the Panama Maritime Authority has taken a measure of support. Through the general directorate of merchant marine, the Panama Maritime Authority has decided to delay, until August 31, 2015, the payment of their taxes and duties due to expire, without charging them with interest and penalties. This decision regards the ships that pay in the Panamanian Consulate, in Piraeus (Greece).
Mr. Jorge Barakat, administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority made known the announcement of this commercial support to H.C.G Agisilaos Anastasakos, head of the department of Maritime Policy of the Hellenic Maritime Ministry, during the meeting of the General Council of the International Maritime Organization, in London (England).
