THE GENERAL DIRECTORATE OF PORTS AND OF THE ANCILLARY MARITIME INDUSTRIES  OPTIMIZES ITS SERVICES.

The General Directorate of Ports and of the Ancillary Maritime Industries of the Panama Maritime Authority launched several proceedings to obtain the certification in accordance with the Quality Management model ISO 9001:2000. One of these proceedings comprises the First Internal Audit of the Quality Management System.

Mr. Gerardo Varela, head of the General Directorate of Ports and of the Ancillary Maritime Industries pointed that the current administration bases its management on the transparency of its administration. It also strives to optimize its services. Therefore, this directorate seeks to implement the provisions for a service of quality, a committed management system that focuses on the highest degree of productivity and effectiveness.

The purpose of the audits is to identify the key weaknesses of the system in order to amend and take the corrective actions that might be necessary. The first phase will take place in the facilities of the General Directorate of Ports and of the Ancillary Maritime Industries. Later on, the auditors will audit the thirty-one state-owned ports. The Quality Management model ISO 9001:2000 strives after the documentation of the processes, the customer satisfaction, a more objective management, in line with the global market. Regarding its targets and plans, the audits encourage the training of a committed human resource that seeks a continuous quality improvement.
