THWARTED PIRACY ATTACK, ON THE AFRICAN COASTS, TO A VESSEL REGISTERED IN PANAMA

On May 19, an attempted attack to the oil tanker ship, INTERIM, Registered in Panama took place in the open sea, close to Akwa Ibom (one of the 36 states that comprise the Federal Republic of Nigeria).

Around 10 men, who were on two speedboats, boarded the INTERIM. In response to the alarm, naval personnel from Nigeria, which was on board the ship, opened fired against the assaulters.

After the exchange of gunfire, the naval personnel succeeded in thwarting the attack. In the gunfire, one of the assaulters was injured.

INTERIM is a ship, whose deadweight is 40 406 tons. World Carrier, in Athens, Greece, manages it.
