The Panama Maritime Authority extends its deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the family, the international maritime community and the Authorities of the Republic of China (Taiwan), on the sad passing away of Mr. Chang Yung-fa, Evergreen Marine Corporation's chairman and founder.

From his birth, he committed his life to the maritime sector. Son of a sailor, he started his own maritime career at age 14. From that moment and until his death, today, his name will be forever linked to navigation and the maritime shipping.

In the 60s, Mr. Chang Yung-fa founded Evergreen Marine Corporation. He laid the foundations for a leading, efficient and reliable company that will enlarge its operations to a global scale.

Mr. Jorge Barakat Pitty, administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority, said, “Mr. Chang Yung-fa will be remembered as one of the most influential public figures in the Asian maritime shipping. He was an executive that placed his confidence in our country – his investments in Panama bear testimony of it. He largely contributed to the logistic development of Panama.”

Thanks to the construction of a port terminal, in a strategic area of the Atlantic, and pushing the concept of Panama as the hub for the maritime shipping of North and South America and the Caribbean, Mr. Chang Yung-fa would open a world of opportunities in Panama, as an international hub for the transshipment of goods.
