La Autoridad Marítima de Panamá (AMP), a través de la Dirección General de Marina Mercante (DGMM), da seguimiento al incidente registrado a bordo del buque tanquero de bandera panameña EL GAIA, mientras navegaba por el Estrecho de Ormuz, al norte de la península de Musandam, en el Sultanato de Omán.
De acuerdo con la información disponible, el buque sufrió un impacto en el área de la sala de máquinas, lo que provocó un incendio a bordo. De los 25 tripulantes, 23 han sido evacuados y puestos a salvo, mientras que otros 2 permanecen desaparecidos.
La AMP mantiene comunicación permanente con los operadores del buque, el agente local designado y las autoridades del Sultanato de Omán, dando seguimiento a las labores de respuesta y búsqueda, dentro del marco de sus responsabilidades como Estado de Abanderamiento.
La institución continuará monitoreando la evolución de la situación y brindando apoyo a la tripulación y operadores de la embarcación, en coordinación con las autoridades competentes.
Ante las condiciones de inseguridad que prevalecen en la región, la AMP reitera a la flota internacional las recomendaciones contenidas en los Avisos de Marina Mercante MMN-04/2025 y MMN-05/2026)

The Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), through its General Directorate of Merchant Marine (DGMM), is closely monitoring the incident involving the Panamanian-flagged oil tanker EL GAIA, which occurred while the vessel was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, north of the Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman.
According to the information currently available, the vessel sustained an impact in the engine room area, triggering a fire on board. Of the vessel’s 25 crew members, 23 have been evacuated and brought to safety, while two remain missing.
The PMA remains in constant communication with the vessel’s operators, the designated local agent, and the authorities of the Sultanate of Oman, closely monitoring the ongoing response and search operations within the scope of its responsibilities as Flag State.
The Authority will continue to closely monitor developments and provide support to the vessel’s crew and operators, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
In light of the prevailing security conditions in the region, the PMA reiterates to the international fleet the recommendations outlined in Merchant Marine Notices MMN-04/2025 y MMN-05/2026)
