AMP BEGINS CONSULTATIONS FOR REHABILITATION OF VACAMONTE SHIPYARD

The Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), through its General Directorate of Ports and Auxiliary Maritime Industries, has announced on its website, https://www.amp.gob.pa/, a request for information (RFI) for the rehabilitation, development, operation, and management of the Vacamonte Port Shipyard.

The AMP aims to gather financial models used by shipyards worldwide, allowing the state to secure stable revenues over the concession period (20 years) and create direct and indirect employment.

The RFI will facilitate the collection of essential information for preparing the project terms, which will subsequently lead to the bidding process.

This information will be used to improve the technical specifications of the required service, obtain knowledge of reference prices and associated costs, and attract potential clients and suppliers.

The consultation period, open from October 14 to November 13, 2024, is directed at all legally established companies in Panama, both domestic and foreign, with the required technical, economic, administrative, and financial capacity.

Participating in the RFI does not obligate the PMA to proceed with a procurement process, nor does it grant additional benefits to those who submit responses.

The shipyard was originally concessioned by the now-defunct National Port Authority through a public bid in 1980, the same year operations began. It is currently closed.

Located within the Vacamonte Port Compound, the shipyard previously provided services for dry docking, welding, general painting, propeller refurbishing, and repair, among others.
