Autoridad Marítima de Panamá (AMP) lamenta informar sobre un incidente ocurrido en el puerto de Remedios, provincia de Chiriquí.
De acuerdo con el reporte preliminar emitido por el Departamento de Operaciones Portuarias, de la Dirección General de Puertos e Industrias Marítimas Auxiliares, aproximadamente a las 8:00 a.m., se registró una explosión a bordo de la embarcación Niño Chavo I, aparentemente mientras se realizaban labores de suministro de combustible, el día de hoy, 29 de junio de 2025.
La explosión afectó a dos personas que se encontraban a bordo. La comunidad local brindó apoyo inmediato y, en poco tiempo, llegaron al lugar unidades del Cuerpo de Bomberos, la Policía Nacional, el Sistema Nacional de Protección Civil (SINAPROC) y el Servicio Nacional Aeronaval (SENAN).
Lamentablemente, uno de los ocupantes de la embarcación falleció a causa del incidente, mientras que el otro fue trasladado en estado grave a un centro hospitalario. Queremos destacar la rápida y valiosa actuación de la comunidad y la oportuna respuesta interinstitucional, que fueron cruciales para contener la situación y evitar consecuencias aún mayores.
Tanto la Dirección General de Puertos e Industrias Marítimas Auxiliares (DGPIMA) como la Dirección General de Marina Mercante (DGMM) de la AMP están colaborando estrechamente con las autoridades del Ministerio Público para identificar las causas del accidente.

The Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) regrets to report an incident that occurred this morning at the Port of Remedios, in the province of Chiriquí.
According to a preliminary report issued by the Department of Port Operations, under the General Directorate of Ports and Ancillary Maritime Industries, an explosion took place at approximately 8:00 a.m. on June 29, 2025, aboard the vessel Niño Chavo I. The incident appears to have occurred during fuel supply operations.
Two individuals on board were affected by the explosion. Members of the local community responded promptly, and emergency units from the National Fire Department, National Police, National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC), and the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN) arrived shortly thereafter to provide support.
Tragically, one of the individuals succumbed to injuries sustained in the explosion, while the other was transported in critical condition to a nearby medical facility. The PMA extends its appreciation to the local community for its immediate assistance, and to the various institutions whose coordinated response was instrumental in containing the situation and mitigating further risks.
The General Directorate of Ports and Ancillary Maritime Industries (DGPIMA) and the General Directorate of Merchant Marine (DGMM) are working in close coordination with the Public Ministry to determine the cause of the incident.
