Royal Caribbean Group presentó al presidente José Raúl Mulino su interés en construir un dique seco flotante en Punta Piedra, Puerto Armuelles, provincia de Chiriquí. El proyecto, de 130 mil toneladas y 400 metros de longitud, permitiría reparar cruceros y grandes buques en Panamá, evitando traslados hasta Asia.
La iniciativa generaría entre 500 y 800 empleos y contempla una plataforma industrial baja en carbono, con estándares internacionales de seguridad y gestión ambiental. El presidente destacó que la inversión fortalecería el posicionamiento estratégico marítimo del país y dinamizaría la economía de Barú. Su ejecución podría iniciar en 2026.
Royal Caribbean Group has presented President José Raúl Mulino with a proposal to build a floating dry dock in Punta Piedra, Puerto Armuelles, in the province of Chiriquí. The project, designed with a capacity of 130,000 tons and a length of 400 meters, would enable the repair of cruise ships and large vessels in Panama, eliminating the need for costly transfers to shipyards in Asia.
The initiative is expected to generate between 500 and 800 jobs and envisions a low-carbon industrial platform built under international standards for safety and environmental management. President Mulino highlighted that the investment would strengthen Panama’s strategic maritime position while boosting economic activity in the Barú district. Construction could begin as early as 2026.
